This walk will take you through the countryside of Paris. We’ll set off from the Butte Bergeyre, cross the Buttes-Chaumont park and reach our destination: the Mouzaïa district.
The Butte Bergeyre lies to the west of the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont, rising to an altitude of around one hundred meters. The 19th-century housing estates that border it may appear modest in surface area, but make no mistake: this neighborhood is home to a notable concentration of architects and artists.
To reach this unspoilt heaven, where tourists and cars are rare, take the stairs at 2, rue Georges Lardennois. They will take you to the Butte Bergeyre garden, where a small vineyard produces around a hundred liters of wine each year.
You can then head off to the Parc des Buttes Chaumont, which we mentioned in a previous article. It’s one of the most beautiful parks in Paris (read our article).
Allow at least an hour to get a glimpse of the park. From here, you’ll be able to reach the famous Mouzaïa district. If this area is preserved today, it’s because its one-storey dwellings are built on a former gypsum quarry, exploited since the Middle Ages. Real estate development has been limited by the risk of collapse caused by large buildings.
The neighborhood is criss-crossed by a dozen small cobblestone lanes known as “villas”, which you can easily stroll along. See our film :
A great discovery!
